Laura is an Associate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 20 years of experience working with children, teens, adults, and couples. She specializes in treating anxiety, depression, life transitions, interpersonal challenges, low self-esteem, and parenting difficulties. Laura has a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental approach which fosters collaborative work with clients. Her therapeutic orientation is psychodynamic; she provides in-depth therapy to help clients engage in a thoughtful exploration of their personal and family history, in order to gain a deeper and broader understanding of themselves, and the impact of past dynamics and experiences in their current lives. She aims to help clients make sense of their difficulties, break the repetition of unhelpful patterns and open new possibilities for the future. She also uses goal-oriented CBT techniques to support the development of practical skills and strategies, as a way to allow clients to better cope with daily life challenges.
Laura is originally from Lima, Peru, and has lived in California, where she earned her Master of Science in Clinical Psychology at San Jose State University. She is fully bilingual in Spanish and English and enjoys working with multicultural and diverse populations. She has worked in private practice, as well as in community and school-based settings.
