Kimberly Swiss, Pys.D.

Kimberly Swiss, Psy.D, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over ten years of experience as a psychotherapist working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Her primary psychotherapeutic approach is rooted in contemporary psychodynamic theory as well as family systems theory. Meaning, her approach is insight-oriented and relationally driven. She explores how past and present experiences and relationships (e.g., family-of-origin and cultural contexts) inform current behavioral/relational patterns and emotional states. In order to tailor and enrich the therapeutic process, she draws from other modalities to employ mindfulness techniques and cognitive-behavioral strategies.  Areas of special interest and expertise include: working with individuals coping with anxiety and depression; identity development related to adolescence and early adulthood; grief and trauma processing at any age; relationship transitions with individuals, couples or families (e.g., divorce, separation, illness, death of a loved one); issues related to substance use; and attachment and/or behavioral difficulties in childhood.

For over a decade, Dr. Swiss has provided psychological testing services for children, adolescents, and adults with a focus on personality assessment as well as intelligence and achievement testing that assesses for neurocognitive disorders (e.g., ADHD, learning difficulties). Additionally, she offers neuropsychological testing to screen for memory impairments, dementia, and undiagnosed cognitive decline.

Dr. Swiss received her BA in psychology from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN and her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Chicago, IL.  Throughout her career, she has taught an array of courses in psychological theory and therapy, psychological assessment, and personality theories at the bachelor, master’s, and doctoral levels at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Chicago and Schaumburg campuses.
